Increase student engagement

Every Xello feature undergoes extensive testing with students, resulting in an experience that looks and feels amazing. Each Wisconsin student will have a unique experience in Xello based on their individual skills and interests. They can customize their profile avatars, upload files to create unique storyboards, and see how their assessment results impact their future goals. With Xello you deliver a personalized and engaging experience at scale.

When watching the students work in Xello, what stood out was how student-focused the experience was. It was easy for students to just click through activities in Career Cruising, but the students spend more time in deeper investigation and reflection with Xello. Eric Mueller, School Counselor, Appleton East High School, WI

Help students build critical skills & knowledge

Equip your students with essential skills and knowledge for future success with fully integrated lessons. Easily woven into existing curriculum or assigned as independent activities, you’ll ensure every student is completely confident and prepared for their future.

"We absolutely love the Xello lessons for ACP implementation. They're a very nice addition to the program." Kerry Johnson, College and Career Readiness Coordinator, DeForest Area School District, WI

Accessible for all students

Xello has been designed to support all students, regardless of background, ability, or chosen pathway. The program exceeds WCAG 2.0 (Level AA) accessibility standards. Content is written at a 6th grade reading level and career profile content shows gender and racial diversity. Plus, with a mobile friendly experience, students can learn and explore, even if they don’t have access to a desktop computer.

All students, regardless of background, have an opportunity to see the same things. It does not matter whether the student is at-risk or a high achiever. The program we’ve enabled with Xello provides something for everyone. It is a one-stop shop that makes achieving students’ dreams fun and engaging, and all without tasking educators with more work Tonni Grant, Coordinator of Academic Advisement Department, Fort Worth Independent School District, Texas

Effortlessly meet your ACP requirements

Xello helps you work with students more efficiently, meet ACP requirements with ease, and confidently equip kids with the skills and knowledge needed to be future ready.

Partnering with Wisconsin's DPI we'll make sure you're educated, trained and confident in how to use Xello, so you’re able to hit the ground running in the 2019/2020 school year.

We’ve got you covered

Before Xello goes live in Wisconsin, the Xello team will work closely with the DPI and all Wisconsin CESAs throughout 2019 to ensure you are trained and excited to introduce your students to Xello.

Questions about your move to Xello?

The Xello team has successfully moved thousands of schools from Career Cruising to Xello, so we’ve got your back. Here are answers to some of the most likely questions about moving to Xello.

What’s involved in moving to Xello? What do I have to do as a District Lead or School lead?

The move to Xello will be automatic and seamless, so there’s almost nothing for you to do. Other than updating your district’s or school’s website for Single Sign On (SSO), the Xello team will do the rest.

Will all my students’ data and work from Career Cruising move to Xello?

Yes! Work completed by students in Career Cruising will move to their Xello account, including

  • Saved careers
  • Saved career clusters
  • Saved majors/programs
  • Saved schools
  • Education history
  • Volunteer experience
  • Work experiences
  • Student course history
  • Course selections
  • Related diplomas

If students have uploaded/saved resources in their Career Cruising accounts that doesn't move over to Xello, students will be able to link back to their Career Cruising account directly from their Xello account.

What training will be available to prepare for the transition to Xello?

You will have access to a variety of training options to suit your needs and schedule:

  • Throughout the winter and spring, Xello will be offering in-person workshops in each CESA. These sessions will introduce you to Xello and give you a chance to try the student experience out for yourself.
  • We’ll also be offering web-based training for those who can’t attend in-person training; those dates will be posted here when they become available.
  • In-person and web-based training will be available in the fall. Stay tuned for more details.
  • You’ll also have access to downloadable student walkthroughs, getting started guides, and online contextual help.

And in the meantime, if you’re interested in learning more about Xello, check out our live webinar series.

How will the change to Xello impact my current use of Career Cruising?

Xello provides embedded, interactive lessons as a new and more robust and effective measure of student progress. Each lesson addresses the academic and real-world skills relevant for grades 6–12 to help make students ready for a constantly changing world.

Over time, we’ve come to understand the advantages and the limitations of the Portfolio Completion Standards approach to measuring progress. The lessons in Xello address those issues through:

  • Age appropriate content that introduces students to key concepts, equipping them with critical skills and knowledge
  • Prompting deeper reflection by contextualizing career exploration, education choices, assessment results, etc.
  • Introducing new topics every year to prevent the feeling of repetition

Integrating students’ own interests, saved options, and assessment results directly in the lesson for a genuinely personalized learning experience.

Lessons can be easily woven into curriculum or assigned as independent activities. And the student dashboard directs students toward the lessons they need to complete for their grade, rather than a list of tasks within the program.

In this document you’ll find a recommended grade-by-grade sequence for the lessons available in Xello mapped to the four stages of ACP. You’ll also see what students need to do before starting each lesson and an overview of what your students will learn in each one. We’ve also suggested additional activities students can complete in Xello at each grade.

As an educator, what will I have access to?

Xello offers a new experience for educators as well. With streamlined login process, simplified navigation, and improved student profiles, Xello’s educator tools allow you to view student profiles and progress, communicate with students and groups, organize courses and specializations, help students with transcripts, run and view reports, & much more.

What is happening with Inspire?

Inspire will be available in Xello this fall. As with the rest of Xello, we’ve taken the learnings gained from 10 years of Inspire to offer a better experience for everyone involved in providing the classroom to community connections the program supports.

If your district uses Inspire, the program’s features will be made available to you and your students in stages to ensure you have adequate time to introduce students to career planning in Xello, and familiarize yourself with your day-to-day educator workflows.

In mid-September, the following Inspire features will be available in your students’ Xello accounts:

  • Immersive Company profiles that provide your students the opportunity to learn more about local companies and employers
  • Engaging Career and Company huddles designed to connect your students with employers and volunteers in the community, who offer career guidance and mentorship

In December, Inspire features will expand beyond exploration and online connections to introduce workplace opportunities and a student-to-educator workflow:

  • Streamlined Opportunities enable your students to view and request work-based learning opportunities (such as job shadows and internships) offered by local employers. This component includes the addition of educators tools and workflows that you’ll need in order to review and approve your students’ requests.

We’re using Course Planner, what happens to our information?

Course Planner data transfers over to Xello automatically. This includes courses, disciplines, diplomas, students’ course history, assigned diplomas, and students’ planned courses.

Your district lead will want to review the information after it’s been imported to make sure everything looks good and is up to date for the 2019-2020 school year.

We’re not using Course Planner yet, can we start with Xello?

Absolutely! Your district lead should reach out to their Success Manager.

We’re using etranscripts, what do we have to do to get that set up in Xello?

Nothing. Your etranscript setup will transfer automatically to Xello.

We’re not using etranscripts yet, can we start with Xello?

Absolutely! Your district lead should reach out to their Success Manager.

Can educators report on students' volunteer hours in Xello?

At this time Xello reports focus on course planner, lesson progress, skills and interests, and student work including assessment results and saved options. Xello currently does not have a report that summarizes student volunteer and work experience, but this request has been brought to Xello’s product and development team.
