Have questions? We have answers!

Get all of the details up front to help you make an informed decision about whether moving to Xello now is right for your teachers and students.

  • Q: Where did Xello come from?

In September 2017 Career Cruising changed to Xello, and launched a brand new, more modern program by the same name. While Xello is new, it’s been built by the same team who created Career Cruising—with over 20 years of experience in the career readiness space.

  • Q: If Xello is the evolution of Career Cruising, does that mean Career Cruising is no longer available?

We will continue to offer and support both the Career Cruising for K-12 and Xello programs for the next few years. We know that schools and boards don’t make changes lightly or at the drop of a hat, so we’ll make sure you have plenty of time to explore your options and develop plans that best meet the needs of you and your students. We will help you with this planning.

  • Q: How do I use Xello to meet my state, provincial or local mandates?

Xello provides embedded, interactive lessons as a new and more robust and effective measure of student progress. Each lesson addresses the academic and real-world skills relevant for grades 6–12 to help make students ready for a constantly changing world.

Over time, we’ve come to understand the advantages and the limitations of the Portfolio Completion Standards approach to measuring progress. The lessons in Xello address those issues through:

    • Age appropriate content that introduces students to key concepts, equipping them with critical skills and knowledge
    • Prompting deeper reflection by contextualizing career exploration, education choices, assessment results, etc
    • Introducing new topics every year to prevent the feeling of repetition
    • Integrating students’ own interests, saved options, and assessment results directly in the lesson for a genuinely personalized learning experience

Lessons can be easily woven into curriculum or assigned as independent activities. And the student dashboard directs students toward the lessons they need to complete for their grade, rather than a list of tasks within the program.

If your regional mandate includes components that are not covered by existing Xello, the custom lessons option allows you to integrate additional activities and reflection for students into their list of activities and progress reporting.
